High performance yarns for thermoplastics

BÜFA Thermoplastic Composites and CORDENKA working together

Just a few weeks ago, the Oldenburg chemical company BÜFA presented the new spin-off BÜFA Thermoplastic Composites. Now the young company, which deals with the sale of renewable raw materials and semi-finished products for components made of long and continuous fibre reinforced thermoplastics, presents a strong ally at its side: CORDENKA, the leading manufacturer of technical multifilament yarns.

The natural cellulose-based fiber is used as a reinforcing material in high-performance tires and technical rubber products, among other applications. However, BÜFA Thermoplastic Composites sees the potential not only in the automotive sector: Cellulose regenerated fibres are also interesting for use as a raw material for components made of thermoplastics, as the particularly high-quality fibres increase the impact strength. This is why BÜFA is responsible for sales in the thermoplastic sector.

The fact that CORDENKA, based in Obernburg, is a successful partner is also shown in the figures. They produce more than 50 percent of the global demand for industrial rayon, which can be processed into cords and fabric in their own finishing plant. The spinning mill has an annual capacity of 32,000 tons. Further information about Cordenka can be found here.
