What are unidirectional Tapes?
UD tapes are endless fibre-reinforced tapes of different widths with unidirectionally aligned reinforcing fibres in which glass or carbon fibres are embedded so ideally in a thermoplastic matrix that completely new possibilities arise in the production of components.
Despite their low thickness, UD tapes have a high level of stability and are also particularly light. This makes them particularly suitable for the production of complex component shapes. In addition, UD tapes can be processed efficiently and, depending on the combination, are flame retardant. Another important property is the possibility of recycling.
We offer unidirectional tapes with glass fiber reinforcement in combination with PP, PA6, PET as well as recycled PET and HDPE matrix.

UD tapes can be processed in various ways. One of them is the tape laying process. As a rule, a laser is used and heats the UD tape, which is then placed in the component mold with the aid of a consolidation unit. Similarly, three-dimensional components can also be produced by using the so-called winding technique. But UD Tapes can also be processed by so-called thermoforming. Here, vacuum, compressed air or a hydraulic press is used and heats the material in a stenter frame until it is soft and can be easily pulled apart. It is then pressed into the mold with the help of a pressing tool, the vacuum or compressed air with a male as well as female mold.
